Bauchi — THE Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Bauchi state has closed down its filling stations in the state in anticipation of the Federal government's purported deregulation of the petroleum sector.
This development has led to fuel scarcity in the state as a gallon now sells for N1,200 while one litre is sold at N100. Thre is consequently an increase in transport fare as commercial motorcycles have increased their fares.
Vanguard gathered that a distance which cost N30 per drop before this development now costs N50.
As a result of this scarcity, many people, especially civil servants, have been forced to trek long distances while passengers wait for long hours at bus stops.
Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Governor, Malam Isa Yuguda, has warned major marketers and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria to open up their stations or face the wrath of government.
A statement signed by the Director of Press Affairs, Maigari Mohammed Khanna, said the government observed, with dismay and concern, the action taken by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) not to dispense the commodity when they have it, in anticipation of deregulation of the petroleum sector."
