Abuja — The Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER) will soon commence massive voter enlightenment to sensitise Nigerians on the need to defend their votes in subsequent elections.
Head of the CODER's office in Abuja, Senator Abu Ibrahim, stated this when a team of leaders of the organisation led by Chief Ayo Opadokun visited the headquarters of Daily Trust in Abuja yesterday.
Senator Ibrahim said voter education is the next stage of CODER's struggle for electoral reform in the country.
He stated that Nigerians must be made to understand that their votes are the potent tools for dislodging non- performing leaders from power.
"We are going into the second stage of voter education to enlighten Nigerians on the need to stand up and defend their votes.
It has happened in Bauchi and the state assembly election in Adamawa where the people stood their ground and their votes counted," he said.
Earlier, CODER's facilator Chief Ayo Opadokun had explained that zonal chapters of the orgainisation would be launched at state and zonal levels to popularise its objectives at the grassroots, adding that street and town meetings would be held from then to sensitise Nigerians on the issues at stake.
Opadokun described the people's votes as the minimum asset that establishes the superiority of their citizenship, pointing out that any attempt to deny Nigerians such asset would be asking them to act negatively in subsequent elections.
