Abuja — Residents of Yangoji community in Kwali Area Council yesterday complained over illegal parking of heavy duty trucks by the roadsides in their community.
A resident, Malam Saidu Usman, said the trucks cause obstruction on the roads, especially in the evenings, thereby posing dangers to other road users.
He said vehicles that come from the east, on approaching Yangoji at night, park indiscriminately by the roadsides, making it difficult for pedestrians to pass to their houses.
According to him, people from the community are often crushed to death as a result of the illegal parking of tanker drivers.
Usman accused tankers drivers as contributing to most accidents that happens around the village, adding that once the time is 5 pm, such vehicles make it difficult for people to cross to the next lane.
Mrs. Ramat Danjuma, a restaurant operator, said the trucks are responsible for the accidents that occurr near filling stations, noting that a middle- aged man was crushed to death about a week ago while trying to cross the road.
She appealed to Federal Road Safety Commission officials at Yangoji to take urgent action in addressing the issue.
Reacting, the Yangoji FRSC Unit Commander, Abdullahi Umar, said the command is also worried of the illegal parking acts and will liaise with the management of Slan- Petroleum to address to problem.
"Infact the command is seriously disturbed on the way and manner these tanker drivers park especially at night," he said.
