Abuja — Two cab drivers were on Tuesday jailed for three months for causing obstruction to other road users along airport road, Abuja.
The accused persons, Alabi Fatope and Musa Olanrewaju were both arrested by a team of policemen on patrol on October 31.
Prosecutor Paul Anigbo told the court that on October 31, 2009, the accused persons parked their vehicles on the road and were searching for passengers.
"As a result of their actions, they caused obstruction on the road to other road users and committed an offence punishable under Sections 39 (3) CAP 548 of the Road Traffic Act," the prosecutor added.
When the charge was read to the accused persons, both of them pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency, promising to be of good conduct henceforth.
Following their guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court to try the accused summarily under section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Chief Magistrate Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo sentenced each of them to three months imprisonment or to pay N5, 000 each as fines.
In another case, two other cab drivers were recently jailed for also causing obstruction along the airport road.
