Kampala — THE long-awaited construction of the 15-storey Church House on Kampala Road will start in March next year.
The project, which is expected to take about two years, is spearheaded by the Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd, an investment arm of the Church of Uganda.
According to the group chief, Eng. Peter Wamburu, the project, which has been on the shelf for over 30 years after being floated by Anglican bishops during the Church centenary celebrations in 1977, needs an initial input of sh6b.
Wamburu, who was on Saturday briefing advisory council members of the Uganda Christian University for Mbale at Buwalasi Study Centre, said the complex will generate income for the Church, provide office space for banks, NGOs, restaurants and shopping arcades.
Wamburu also disclosed that discussions with the Bank of Uganda on plans by the Church of Uganda to open a commercial bank next year were going on.
