Residents of Busoga District should plant more trees if they want to be economically empowered, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament has said.
Ms Rebecca Kadaga said trees are not only good for environmental conservation but also for timber which is on high demand in the country and internationally.
Trees for money
"Tree planting will never disappoint you, poles are scarce for construction and one can easily become a millionaire by planting trees," Ms Kadaga said.
She was on a tour in Nabwigulu Sub county to identify problems affecting residents and also to supervise implementation of the government programmes.
Ms Kadaga, who is also the area Woman MP, emphasised the importance of tree planting saying, one can sustain their family, educate their children and gain repute.
Curbing degradation
She told the residents that apart from getting wealth, tree planting is now an international drive directed towards averting the impacts of the escalating environment degradation and global climate change.
Ms Kadaga pledged to give 3,000 pine seedlings to women, youths and elders of Sabawali Parish, in a tree planting drive.
