Uganda: Mubiru Nets As Eagles Recover

Veteran striker Hassan Mubiru got off the mark as Express dispatched Maji 2-0 to move joint top with Fire Masters in the Super League at Nakivubo stadium yesterday.

Bunnamwaya also joined the duo on 12 points as they beat Hoima away 2-0.

Mubiru looked his former self as he tapped in for Red Eagles' lead in the first minute after good work from Daniel Sserunkuma and Julius Ogwang.

Noah Ssemakula recovered late from a thigh injury to net his fifth of the term on 43 minutes in a match devoid of clear cut chances. "This is the game I want us to play. Create chances and score them," said Express coach David Otti, smarting from a 1-0 loss to Police Saturday.

"Conceding so early demoralised us. We are not used to that and we never recovered," Maji deputy coach Charles Ayekho said.

Elsewhere, Simba recorded their first win of the season with Jeffer Waibi, Henry Tindyebwa and Crispin Kantongole scoring in the 3-1 triumph over Arua.

Tony Odur and Juma Sadam scored in Bunnamwaya's 2-0 away win over Hoima while Abdul Kigongo and Peter Katumba netted for Masaka over Police.

Meanwhile, action resumes today with two matches on card after the third game between SC Villa and Kinyara was pushed to Sunday due to the death of Villa goalkeeper's coach Giringi Lukwago who passed away yesterday.

At Nakivubo stadium, Fire Masters will visit Nalubaale aiming to stretch their lead at the top.
