Awka — FEDERAL Government has given approval to the Anambra State government to construct a cargo Airport at Ifite Umueri , Anambra East local government area.
Commissioner for Information and culture, Anambra State , Chief Majah Umeh announced this during a post Exco briefing .
Umeh said the airport project is in collaboration with the Orient Petroleum Resources limited that is establishing an oil refinery in that axis and needed a cargo airport for movement of their needs.
He said government would embark on the process of acquiring land among other things through due process having met all requirements from the Nigerian Aviation .
The Anambra Information and culture commissioner announced that the Anambra state sports contingent to the just concluded Abeokuta 2009 made the state proud by winning 78 medals including 13 gold medals , 15 silver medals and 48 bronze medals . He said against the old position of taking last or something close to that the state came 7th in the competition .
He lamented on the attitude of residents of the state who block the drainages with filthy and pleaded that such should stop to assist the government turn around the refuse disposal habit as modern equipments already in place would assist in refuse disposal and management. He said Upper Iweka and its environs would soon be visited for major clean up operation but decried the attitude of some people at Eke Awka who still drop refuse at the median of the road.
