The foundation stone for a new market at Makumbaya village in Kombo North, was laid last Sunday, 1st of November, 2009 funded by the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP).
Speaking at the occasion, the Alkalo of the village, Alhagie Kujabi, confirmed that the market is 100 by 200 meters in size and is funded by CDDP with an amount of D350, 000. The money, he said will be spent in installments and that it will be monitored until the project's finishing stage.
The governor of Western Region, Lamin Sanneh, assured his people that the government of The Gambia would not relent in its efforts to see that the project is successfully implemented. He said the project is a test case for the community and that it's success or failure depends on the community. The National Assembly member for Kombo North, Honourable Adama Cham also advised the community to unite and ensure that the project is implemented as expected.
