Gambia: LRR Flood Victims Need More Assistance

Momodou Sanneh, the disaster focal person, Lower River Region (LRR), said despite various intervention by the donor agencies in assisting affected flood victims in LRR, there are some people who have not yet benefited from the humanitarian gesture.

Sanneh was speaking to the Daily Observer on Sunday, shortly after WFP distributed food items to flood victims in Jarra Soma. According to him, the LRR Regional Disaster Committee have conducted assessments on the plight of the flood victims in all the six districts in the region and that the conclusion of the assortment has shown that there are quite a number of people in need of help.

He however hailed the timely intervention of the National Disaster Management Agency under the Office of the Vice President, Ajaratou Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy, noting that their support to the flood victims was significant. Sanneh also thanked The Gambia Red Cross Society and WFP for their support, as it will go a long way in uplifting the living standard of the affected victims in the region. On behalf of the victims, he commended all the donors for the gesture.
