Lagos — Globacom Limited, the Official Sponsor of the Nigeria FIFA U-17 World Cup team, the Golden Eaglets, has expressed delight at the improving performance of the team in the tournament and urged the Nigerian youngsters to step up their game again when they tackle the little Kiwis of New Zealand today.
A statement by Mr. Adewale Sangowawa, Globacom's Executive Director, Human Resources, said the Eaglets' sparkling performance is a reciprocation of the outpouring of goodwill messages from fans to the team before the competition kicked off. He recalled that Globacom presented a 'giant' book containing goodwill messages from fans to the team at their Transcorp Hilton Hotel on the eve of the opening game.
The statement noted that the performance of the Golden Eaglets has been on the ascendancy since the opening game with Germany which ended in a 3-3 draw and charged the team to 'raise the bar again on Thursday and conquer the lads from New Zealand ".
Globacom reminded the players that they have the support of millions of Nigerians to clinch the trophy a record fourth time and win the N50 Million bonus promised by the telecom giant.
"Your performance so far has united the nation behind you and we hope that with the support of millions of Nigerians, you will step up your game to ensure victory against the New Zealand team in Abuja on Thursday", the statement added. The company advised the players not to take their opponents for granted but to approach the game with confidence and a determination to win.
Globacom also assured the players of massive support at the stadium during the match, stating that "our partners in the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) will continue to lead the cheer party with motivational songs and beats from their musical instrument".
Globacom Limited is also the Official National Supporter of the FIFA World Cup tournament in Nigeria.
