Nigeria: Kidnap - Look Beyond Chris Uba - PDP Aspirant

Abuja — A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2010 governorship election in Anambra State, Barrister Mike Nkwocha, has advised the police to go beyond inviting a select number of politicians for questioning over the kidnap of Pa Soludo, father of Prof. Charles Soludo.

Specifically, he said focusing on Chief Chris Uba and other select politicians are merely diversionary and would not help to unravel the real motive behind the kidnapping.

Nkwocha, in a press release made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the police to beam their searchlight on the possible motives of those who were behind the crime.

He said that knowledge of the motives of the perpetrators of the crime would actually help the police to know the caliber of persons who organised the kidnap.

Nkwocha said that focusing on particular politicians in the state, as the main culprits, will not serve the general interest, which is to unmask the real culprits of this heinous crime but a mere diversion of attention.

"Focusing on Chief Chris Uba and other politicians in the state is a diversion from the real business of unmasking the real perpetrators of this crime", he said.

He added that "the police should go beyond this level and begin to look at the real motives of the kidnappers which may not really be political, but economic or social.

"What political interest will the kidnap of Soludo's father, an old man without a known political leaning, serve any politician in Anambra State?", he asked, adding that the law enforcement agents should as well, look at Soludo's community and campaign outfit, to see if there was any disagreement between him and other people in the past.

He pointed out that there could be some agent provocateurs in Soludo's campaign organisation who may want to use the kidnap saga to cause confusion in the state.
