Freetown — Members of the house of parliament of Sierra Leone have re-elected Honourable Chukuma V. Johnson of the All Peoples Congress, APC as deputy speaker of parliament, second time in a row.
During parliamentary session yesterday he was nominated by a member of his party, seconded by a member of parliament representing the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party, SLPP. No other person was nominated.
Parliament, however, conducted an election that eventually elected him deputy speaker with 47 votes and one void. Those Mps who were late for the election were disenfranchised by the Speaker of the House, Justice Nathaniel Abel-Stronge.
He took the oath of office before parliament and was later joined by colleagues to celebrate his victory.
In a snap interview with Concord Times the victor credited his success to his rapport with the colleagues in the house.
He ended by expressing hope to live up to the expectations of the house.
