Nigeria: Benue Certified as Guinea Worm Free

Makurdi — After several interventions in Guinea Worm infested areas of Benue State, the Jimmy Carter Foundation has certified the state as completely free of the disease.

This was disclosed by Former Head of State and Co-ordinator of the Carter Foundation in Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon, during a courtesy visit to Governor Gabriel Suswam in Makurdi.

General Gowon announced a reward of N10,000 to anyone who has an information to the contrary stressing that such information must be based on indisputable facts.

He disclosed that the latest development in the state would warrant a process of certification by WHO and UNICEF.
