Tanzania has booked its ticket to the next year's World Pool Championship after finishing fifth at the just ended All Africa Tournament in South Africa.
Having guaranteed their place, the team will now continue gearing up for the championship, which will be held in France.
The Tanzania Pool Association's secretary general, Amos Kafwinga told The Citizen yesterday that the country triumphed in both team and individual categories.
In the event involving the teams, the hosts, South Africa put in spectacular displays to retain the title.
"The tournament was very tough, but we managed to finish fifth and the most important thing is that we sailed through to the World Championship," Kafwinga said.
Other teams that took part at the continental event came from Swaziland, Reunion, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
In the singles, Tanzania's Omary Akida suffered elimination in the quarterfinals, but his compatriot Godfrey Mhando sealed his place in the African select team.
Other players forming the select team include Sandile Madlala (South Africa), Romuald Servinou, Mickael Chane-Sam (Reunion) and David Masuku (Swaziland.)
TBL's official Fimbo Butallah whose firm has been supporting pool annually lavished praises on the team for their gritty shows.
"We're proud of your successes and we promise to keep on supporting you and other domestic events," he said.
