Harare — THREE more people have been picked up for questioning in connection with the death of Chinhoyi High School pupil Moreblessing Musiiwa, as police widen investigations.
The scope of the investigation is now centred on establishing who could have aided in transporting Musiiwa to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital to seek medical attention when he lost consciousness after being struck with a cricket bat.
Hospital staff allegedly refused to attend to him without a police report.
The three people picked up include two taxi drivers and a man believed to be Chinhoyi High School sports director Joseph Mpala's friend.
Acting Mashonaland West police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the latest development saying no charges have been laid against the three.
"We have just brought them for questioning and its routine police procedure which does not mean we have arrested them. That can only happen after findings of the investigations point to any of them playing a part," he said.
Police last week arrested Mpala and caretaker Lameck Katungunde after evidence linked the pair to the murder of Musiiwa.
It emerged last week that Musiiwa was struck once on the head with a cricket bat before being thrown into the swimming pool.
Mpala and Katungunde have since appeared at the Chinhoyi magistrates' court charged with murder. They were remanded in custody to November 13 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
