Harare — NOVEMBER has been declared The Month of Musicians in a bid to address their welfare.
A brainchild of music diva Busi Ncube, The Month of Musicians will be launched at Milton Park Bowling Club in the capital tomorrow.
The festival will bring together close to 20 musicians under the banner Artists4Artists, raising funds for supporting the artistes in times of need.
"The project was established to create a platform to raise support for Zimbabwean artistes in times of need through music performances.
"When hard times hit, often the hardest hit are performing artistes who have no formal employment to assist them through crises that affect their lives from time to time, like anyone else.
"Artists 4 Artists is a self-help initiative, which is badly needed," said Ncube, the association's organiser.
She said numerous artistes had gave the idea a thumbs up and had confirmed taking part at the festival.
"We have sold the idea to several artistes who welcomed the concept and who have agreed to come together for a big first event to get the show on the road.
"Depending on the success of this first festival, we hope to be able to establish a fund to help artists in times of personal crisis.
"We intend it to grow into an annual event, which will be held in different cities and towns in following years," she said.
Some of the artistes expected to perform at the festival are Adam Chisvo, Alexio Kawara, Andy Brown, Banyana Banyana Dance Group, Bob Nyabinde, Brian Nanhanga and Shamwari, Busi Ncube and Band Rain, Dumi Ngulube and Amagents, Luba Blues, Lwazi Tshabangu, Micinity, Pastor Charles Charamba and wife Olivia, Philip Svosve and Jabavu Drive, Real Sounds of Africa, Rute Mbangwa, Edith Katiji and So What? and Willis Wataffi.
The festival will also mark the opening of Milton Park Bowling Club to entertainment events such as live bands in an effort to raise funds for the upgrading of facilities at the venue.
"We are going back to the idea of true recreation and as a result we have started hosting bands that will be playing here every week.
"On Fridays and Saturdays we will be having old skool while Sundays are strictly for jazz and traditional foods," said Ginger Chinguva, the chairman of the club.
Remigio Chiguware the manager of the club said the money raised from the shows would be used to repair a borehole pump and upgrade the tennis court.
