The Chairman, Governing Board of FRSC, retired Col. Lawan Gwadabe, has urged Nigerians to demonstrate good character by rendering humanitarian services to accident victims.

Gwadabe made the appeal in Kaduna recently when a 65 year old man, Alhaji Ahmadu Funtua, who has over the last 30 years, rendered free services to accident victims, was honoured.

Speaking at the "Ember Months kick-off campaign in Kaduna, the chairman said Funtua turned his vehicle to ambulance for conveying accident victims to hospitals and the dead ones to the morgue.

He said the driver, who operates from Kawo Motor Park in Kaduna, had for many years rendered this humanitarian service with no cost or support from

the State or Federal Government.

"Funtua would not only stop at the mortuary but also makes series of radio announcements until the relations of those accident victims turn up," Gwadabe said.

Gwadabe, who presented the recipient with a letter of recommendation, urged Nigerians to imbibe good character by rendering humanitarian services in the rescue of accidents victims.

He said that the FRSC would soon buy more ambulances to be placed at strategic locations to respond to any emergency in these ember months.

He said the FRSC call centre had come on stream and some new heavy duty tow vehicles have been acquired to ensure the clearance of road obstruction on the highways.

Gwadabe identified problems of inadequate road infrastructure and poor driving culture by Nigerian motorists as responsible for the frequent road accidents.

He said the "ember month's campaign" was to ensure the re-ordering of individual and group attitude to engender reduction in road crashes.

The chairman urged motorists to exercise patience while on the highways in last quarter to reduce road accidents
