In line with the Sheraton Abuja Hotel's Check Out for Children Kids Belong-theme, over 800 boisterous participants from various sectors of the Federal Capital Territory-Abuja converged on the Sheraton Abuja Hotel on October 10, to walk for vulnerable and orphaned Street Children in the country.
The gathering had top notch attendants from government establishments, CEO's from the organized private sector organizations, diplomats, school teachers, school children, Reverend Sisters and the less privileged children from Catholic homes as well orphans.
First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria "Hajia Turai Yar' Adua flagged off the walk, assisted by two important VIP's- Wife of the Vice President and the Minister for Women Affairs.
General Manager of the Sheraton Abuja Hotel, Mr. Morten Ebbesen, together with Nigeria's Minister of Health Professor Babatunde Osotimehin assisted as hundred's of excited children surrounded the First Lady during the ribbon cutting.
The walk was a great success with 7Up Bottling company providing refreshments along the routes, NAPTIP staff - (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters) together with KLM Airlines, donated t- shirts and face caps for fundraising while General Manager Ebbesen brought heart touching significance to the event by shoulder-carrying a fragile little child throughout the walk, not only that, he contributed N100,000 naira from his own pocket towards Road to awareness 2009.
Highlight of the event came after the walk and reception, during the raffle draw when the winner of the KLM Royal Dutch airline ticket burst out in joy at the announcement of her name.
There was music from a live band, cocktail food and a renowned Nigerian comedian brought rib cracking humour to spice up the day.
