Kigali — THE National Paralympics Committee (NPC) of Rwanda has come to Badminton's rescue, Times Sport reports.

NPC-Rwanda has offered Badminton players the NPC Gymnasium at Amahoro Stadium until they find a facility of their own.

The Badminton fraternity had its first training session on Monday and has promised to increase the number of training days if numbers grow.

"We thank NPC-Rwanda for hearing us out and offering us their gymnasium. Now, we would like to encourage more locals to take on the sport," the acting president of Rwanda Badminton Association Andrew Ndayambaje said.

Previously, the players were training at Hotel Laico's outdoor court but Badminton being an indoor game; Ndayambaje conceded that their sessions were time and again being disrupted by wind and rain.

The association's immediate agenda is to try and spread the sport in both primary and secondary schools.

Currently, there are three clubs; Nyarutarama, Laico Umubano and Remera.

The first ever Badminton tournament was held late last year.
