THE Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has elected new officers to pilot the affairs of the union for another two years.
The election which formed part of the 10th national delegate conference which held at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State between the of October 4 and 10, 2009, had the incumbent president, Mohammad Kabir of the host institution, re-elected for another term.
A press release made available to Daily Champion quoted the national publicity secretary, Adesoji Senbanjo as saying that the delegate conference was the first where all chapters across the country participated.
In his post election remarks, Mr. Kabir congratulated the delegates and the entire members for the giant strides by the union.
He identified the achievements to include the union registration and the unity among the members, saying that no organisation can function well without internal cohesion.
The president promised to work hard with the new officers to pursue the goals of the union and achieve better welfare package for its members, pledging that this would be achieved with minimum dislocation of the polytechnic system as the union has adopted dialogue as a backbone of its negotiation strategy.
Other elected officers are: C. B. Asomugha, national vice president; Usman P. Mamaki, national secretary general; Comrade Prince Adesoji Senbanjo, national publicity secretary; Mbaeze Stella, national treasurer and Yusuf M. A,, national financial secretary.
Also elected are: Babashuwa Goni, national internal auditor; Peter Garba, zonal coordinator, Zone A; Abubakar Hussaini Ibrahim, zonal coordinator, Zone B; Ekundayo Gbenga, zonal coordinator, Zone C; Cyril Odidisi, zonal coordinator, Zone D as well as Muhammed Umar Kibiya, as ex-officio.
