Nigeria: Traditional Ruler Outlines Benefits of Dry Port

Traditional ruler of Avor-Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia state Eze Robert,O. Nwigwe has outlined the benefits accruable from the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Isiala Ngwa.

Speaking to Daily Champion during the formal handover of the site for the ICD to the concessionaires for development, Eze Nwigwe said that the ICD will create jobs for the teaming youths in the area, attract different companies that has much to do with the activities at the depot.

Aside from that, the ICD will also lead to faster development of the area and create other businesses that could have multiple benefit to the people of Avor and the entire Ntigha communities.

On whether there is any loggerhead with the government or the concessionaires, Eze Nwigwe who was the first zonal co-coordinator of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board- JAMB from the area said that Ntigha is a peaceful people who would not want kick against any positive development that will add value to their lives. He said there is no disagreement whatsoever as the entire community are happy receiving such development.

While appealing to the federal government and concessionaire not to delay the project he revealed that the state government has set in motion a strong security network comprising the state, the local government and the community to oversee the happenings in the area. This, he said is aimed at making sure that there is no element of conflict within and around the ICD environment.

He said the investment of the local security or the vigilante group is to ensure the youth of the area are carried along in the entire exercise. This, he noted, is a way of giving the youths sense of belonging and to make them see the project as their own.

Eze Nwigwe said that community is eagerly looking forward to seeing the actualization of the project in the next 30 months.

Recall that the ICD project was initiated under president Obasanjo administration with Chief Ojo Maduekwe as the Transport Minister. It was meant to lend a helping hand to seaports by serving as an extension of such ports. Dry port as ICDs are also called is a model of port operation recognized globally. It is not peculiar to Nigeria..
