Minna — Barrister Husseini Garba, leader of a faction of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Niger State has said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has no legal right to dissolve the Niger State executive.
Garba who stated this in Minna yesterday stressed that the appointment of Mr. David Umah as chairman of an interim management committee was designed to massage the ego of the party's 2007 gubernatorial candidate, Barrister David Umaru.
He maintained that the High Court in Minna had already declared that his earlier expulsion from the ANPP on the ground that he took it to court is illegal, therefore he (Garba) remains the party's chairman.
"Section 13 of the 1999 constitution provides access to court. In the case of Ararume vs PDP, the Supreme Court said any party constitution that runs contrary to the 1999 constitution must give way," he reminded the ANPP.
"The Niger state Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) pursuant to the judgement of the court has since recognized my executive committee as the only legitimate party organ in the state", he added.
He urged members loyal to him to go about with their activities in accordance with the law, stressing that nothing will affect their membership, interest or position.
The Niger State ANPP chapter has been in a leadership tussle which created two camps, one led by Garba and the other by Umaru.
