Sokoto — A pilgrim from Sokoto State and popular lawyer in the state, Barrister AbdulQadir Ibrahim Imam died Monday in Saudi Arabia a few days after arriving there for the pilgrimage.
He was said to have been in a queue waiting to cash his travellers' cheque when he started complaining of stomach ache. AbdulQadir was said to have subsequently left for his room to take a rest. Daily Trust gathered that after a while, calls were put across to him but he did not respond.
It was when other pilgrims went to his room to see him that they found him dead on his bed. The deceased was among the Kware Local Government pilgrims from Sokoto who left Nigeria Friday, October 30, 2009.
It was gathered that this was not the first time late AbdulQadir went for the hajj exercise but that this time he accompanied his mother to perform the pilgrimage. AbdulQadir, an indigene of Kwara State, was married with children. Public Relations Officer, Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency Sheikh Abdul Aziz Kofar Rini who is currently in Saudi Arabia, confirmed the death on phone. Prayers for the late AbdulQadir were held at his residence at Arkila area of Sokoto Tuesday.
