Abuja — As the fuel scarcity continues to bite harder and motorists spend endless hours queuing for petrol at various fuel stations in Abuja, commuters as well as motorists are complaining.
Some of them that spoke to our reporter called on government to act fast in returning the situation into normal.
Aisha, a commuter, said commercial vehicles are scarce because of the fuel problem, adding that the few in operation have hiked their fare by a hundred percent.
A motorist, John, wondered why the activities of black marketers are flourishing during this period while motorists spend endless hours on queues in petrol stations.
"I believe that some fuel stations' attendants sell fuel to black marketers during the cover of the night and at the day time sell fuel to them in jerry cans," he said.
Wole Adekunle, a commercial bus driver, lamented that most fuel station hoard the products by either not selling at all or use few pumps to sell to motorists.
"Government should let us know where they stand on their planned deregulation instead of sitting over the fence as we initially learnt that it will be this month.
"The confusion created by government is what commuters are suffering today because government has not put on ground cushioning measures, especially providing more commercial mass transits in the FCT," he added.
Mr. Moses Cornelius, a civil servant, appealed to filling station managements to be patriotic enough by allowing normal fuel sales in their station.
"The timing of this scarcity is uncalled for, as the 'FIFA Under 17' World Cup is presently on in the country with foreigners residing in our hotels and how do we expect the foreigners to perceive us in this chaotic situation, especially when we are called an oil nation," he said.
