Court in Jinja yesterday refused to grant bail to a man suspected to be a member of an international car theft racket arrested at Katuna on the Uganda-Rwanda border.
Mr Collin Soman presented himself before court without a surety. Grade One magistrate Patricia Amoko said: "I cannot grant you bail without a surety, you even have no fixed place of residence."
Mr Soman who was jointly arrested by Interpol and Uganda Police on October 9, was remanded to Kirinya Prison until December 2.
Prosecution file shows that Mr Soman disguised as a programme officer for United Nations High Commission for Refugees to get a vehicle from the managing director of Advanced Tours and Travel in Jinja.
However, the car was later found in Burundi's capital Bujumbura after he failed to return it.
Mr Soman has reportedly been stealing cars from 20 countries in Africa.
