The woman councillor for Koch Goma Sub-county in Amuru District, Ms Margaret Ayugi Odong, was reportedly hacked on the head yesterday by her neighbour, Mr Vincent Onono in a land boundary row.

Speaking to Daily Monitor yesterday before she was taken to Gulu Hospital, Ms Ayugi said: "This man cut my head and hit my hand with a hoe just after I asked him why he encroached on my land and destroyed trees I planted as a perimeter fence."

Long conflict

Ms Ayugi, a resident of Aywe Village in Gulu Municipality, said the row between her and Mr Omona has lasted for two years.

Ms Ayugi said she reported the matter to the area LC I, Mr Jackson Ojok several times but nothing was done to resolve the matter.

The Aywe Village defence secretary, Mr Charles Odongkara, said Mr Omona fled to Opit Trading Centre after the incident.

The Gulu acting District Police Commander, Mr Moses Okello said: "I am not aware of the matter because nobody has yet reported the case but if she does, we shall follow him up."
