Lagos — Property owners along Eric-Moore-Orile-Mile2-Badary-Seme Expressway have dragged the Lagos State government before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over the planned expansion of the Badagry expressway.
The property owners under the aegis of the Association of Landlords and Property Owners, are accusing the state government of planning to demolish their properties without adequate compensation despite the submission of all relevant documents.
According to the matter before the chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Dan Abutu, the plaintiffs also listed the Attorney General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Works and Urban Development, Lagos state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, the state Commissioner for Lands and Julius Berger Nigeria, all as respondents to the suit.
The residents, suing through Chief S.B.A Ogunlana, Mrs. Mercy Obialo, the Registered Trustees of Faith Cathedral International Church and Namos Oil Nigeria Limited, alleged that sometimes in 2008, they began to receive threats of eviction letters and notices from the Lagos state government.
The plaintiffs noted that the state government assured them that all those whose buildings and structures would be affected by the planned expansion of the expressway would be paid compensation, relocated and resettled.
