A CROSS-section of Zambians has condemned the smear campaign launched by some former Government leaders and members of the civil society against President Rupiah Banda's family and the Government.
Stakeholders, including members of the civil society, the Church and politicians condemned the sustained smear campaign against Mr Banda's family by politicians such as former vice-president, Enoch Kavindele and former Defence minister George Mpombo.
Copperbelt Welfare and Environmental Protection Association president, Sydney Njamba said Mr Kavindele had no moral right to attack President Banda and his sons just because he could not be helped to revive his ailing businesses.
"We are aware that President Banda's sons have always been in business and what should change their business acumen when their father is in State House?
"Mr Kavindele's son, Enock Kavindele Jr has always been in business derived from his father and why should he change when his father assumes the Republican Presidency? These are matters that border on morality and Mr Kavindele should be made to realise this," Mr Njamba said.
Chipata Catholic diocese youth chaplain, Odron Tembo advised political leaders to stop fighting each other and instead work together to foster national development.
Father Tembo said in an interview in Chipata yesterday that the political leaders who were fighting each other through the media were sowing a bad culture of insults for the youths.
He said it was embarrassing and disappointing to note that political leaders were busy showering insults on each other on a daily basis at the expense of national development.
"Whenever these people insult each other they should know that their electorate is monitoring them and will gauge them based on their utterances and good works," he said.
Forum for Political Parties (FPP) spokesperson, Charles Kafumbo said it was unfortunate that former leaders had resorted to using unpalatable language against Mr Banda.
Mr Kafumbo said it was sad that the former Government leaders had chosen to publicly attack President Banda, instead of advising him on how best to develop the country.
He advised them to avail themselves as part of the solution to the challenges facing the country.
The MMD in Southern Province condemned the continued attacks on President Banda and his family by some politicians in the party and the opposition.
Provincial chairperson Solomon Muzyamba said President Banda's children were free to take part in the political or business sectors of this country as it was their right as citizens.
