Professor Wilson Tarpeh, one of the 10 candidates in the race has been assured by the people of Todee of their support to his candidacy in the Montserrado County By-elections. He was in Todee on Wednesday as part of and in continuation of the ongoing campaign which comes to an end on November 8, 2009.
Thousands of Todee's residents from several towns and villages converged at one of their biggest towns, Nyen to welcome Tarpeh and pledge their support to his cause. Speaking on behalf of thousands of residents of the district, Samuel Goodies said Professor Tarpeh is the best candidate for the senatorial seat.
He recalled that during the 2005 election in which Tarpeh contested, he promised to build a clinic and he fulfilled the promise even-though he lost. He said the clinic constructed by candidate Tarpeh is benefitting the people of the district.
Prof. Tarpeh and a high-powered delegation were welcomed by the residents of the district with traditional welcome ceremony by old folks and elders and traditional leaders. He was later blessed and assured of victory.
Mr. Goodies indicated that only candidate Tarpeh is the only person that has reached them suggesting that the Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD) candidate is the only candidate that has them at heart. He used the time to appeal to Tarpeh, a former Finance Minister to draft an act to grant the district full county status.
According to him, the district has been forgotten by central government as well as local and national authorities. He said the district lacks bigger health facilities, high school and that there are no pave roads, thus making transportation very difficult and challenging.
Responding to the people of the Todee District, Professor Tarpeh expressed appreciations to them for been kind and recognizing his little effort. He told them to express their love for him at the poll, pledging that he and his party are not willing for runoff election, noting he must win at once.
He maintained that he has ability and outstanding record without corruption and he must be elected as senator. He told the gathering to vote their conscience and should not be carried away by money and rice, noting those coming from the government is the country's resources being used for campaign. He reminded them to vote him for better livelihood and improved educational system.
