Accra — Executives of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have appealed to disgruntled Constituency Executives of the party in the region to refrain from making any move which may cause disaffection for the government.
They have, therefore, appealed to each and every one of the executives to give President Mills and his government a little bit of time to sort out their differences. This was after some of the Constituency Executives, including Chairmen and Secretaries among others, complained of being neglected by the party, to the executives at a meeting in Accra.
The meeting, which was at the instance of the regional executives, led by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr. Daniel Anang, offered the Constituency Executives an opportunity to voice out their concerns.
Some of the Constituency Executives complained of being neglected by the government and thus threatened to embark on a demonstration to the seat of government, to back their demand for equal opportunities and jobs.
Though their party is in government, most of the constituency executives claim that they are being treated as though they were in opposition and, therefore, called for immediate steps to address their concerns, or else they would march to the seat of government at the Osu Castle to make their concerns known.
This position of the constituency of the executives was what compelled the regional executives to plead with them to hold their horses.
The regional executives thus promised to channel their concerns through the national executives and appealed to them to exercise a bit of retrain for their concerns to be addressed.
Genuine as their case may be, he noted that it was too early in the day for people to start grumbling, since President Mills and the NDC administration has a lot of work to do, having inherited a virtually broken economy from the previous NPP administration.
Under the current circumstance, he noted that government is bent on first fixing the economy, which would translate to improve the living conditions of individual Ghanaians and, therefore, urged them to bid their time, since according to him "better days are yet to come."
On the issue of employment creation, the Regional Chairman emphasized that government has plans to create more job opportunities, not just for party members, but for all Ghanaians as well.
For this reason, he indicated that government would soon roll out a comprehensive programme to create more jobs for the youth, most of who are currently sitting home, without gainful employment.
He promised the people that President Mills and his administration would deliver on each and every promise that was made to Ghanaians during the 2008 elections campaign and, therefore, encouraged them to have confidence in the government.
He also urged the country's teeming youth to take advantage of the Youth in Agriculture Programme (YAP) to put be in gainful employment.
Quoting from the party's manifesto, he noted "The NDC's long term objective is to promote and create productive employment opportunities in all sectors of the economy", emphasizing that "Our policies on investment and on training are designed to create employment and to enable productive ventures to tap the needed manpower."
