Accra — THE MARIA Montessori School in Kumasi has celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its founding, with a call on parents and teachers to re-dedicate themselves to the re-organisation of the education system to help students, both academically and socially.
The Manager of the school, Mr. Bonsu Boateng, challenged parents to stimulate their children to have a desire to learn, for them to have an opportunity at every level to apply their learning, and help shape the future of the country.
The theme of the anniversary, which coincided with the school's 15th Prize Giving Day, was "Practical Education in Basic Schools."
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman, Mr. Prince Hagan, commended the teachers for their commitment to duty, which had brought the school this far.
He said as the main players of the school, hard work on their part, was crucial, saying a good school is judged by not only its academic performance and results, but also the quality of the lives of its products, their behaviour, speech, ideas, attitudes, efficiency and sense of duty in public life.
According to the PTA Chairman, pupils of the Maria Montessori have been good ambassadors so far.
The Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Grace Boateng, encouraged parents to invest in the children, saying that giving their children quality education was the best legacy they could leave their wards.
Mrs. Boateng noted that parents who send their children to private schools, had already made a good choice and must commit themselves to pay fees, buy textbooks and make sure that the children do their homework, and above all also check that the chosen schools were delivering quality education, and doing all that it takes to make the child happy, confident and disciplined learners.
