Ghana: Apostles' Continuation Church Celebrates Silver Jubilee

5 November 2009

Accra — The Aworowa branch of the Apostles' Continuation Church International has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Anniversary.

As part of the Anniversary celebration, a sod was cut for the commencement of the construction of a six-unit classroom block, with offices, for the Apostles' Continuation International School at Aworowa.

The project is estimated to cost GH¢50,000, which forms part of the Church's social responsibility to the people of Aworowa in the Techiman Municipality.

Mr. Alex Kyeremeh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Techiman, and Nana Gyasi Acheampong, Adatihene ofTechiman, jointly cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

Delivering the sermon as part of the Anniversary celebration, the Host Pastor, George Asare Duah, called on Christians to live exemplary lives to inherit the Kingdom of God.

Touching on the theme for the Anniversary: "You are the Light of the World," the host pastor said Christians had the responsibility to serve God and their nation in honesty, adding, "We must brighten up the corner wherever we are as Christians."

According to Pastor George Asare Duah, one can only fulfill God's wish, if the person honours all responsibilities to the nation, especially by fulfilling tax obligations, which is used for the development.

"You can't please God with dishonesty to the country; we all have to contribute to the building of the nation," the pastor stressed.

He explained that it was taxes that are used for the provision of water, electricity, health and education, hence the need to honour tax obligations must be a priority to Christians. However, Pastor Asare Duah insisted that taxpayers also have the right to know where and what the taxes the pay got to, and were used for, in order to have the motivation in paying it regularly and promptly.

He charged on tax and other revenue collecting agencies to be accountable to the state, and desist from engaging in corrupt deals, to gain the confidence of the public and state.

According to Pastor Asare Duah, agencies in charge of the tax collection should make tax education and sensitisation a priority, for the public to acknowledge the importance of paying taxes, to increase the revenue generation of the country.

The MCE commended the church for complementing the efforts of the government in the provision of education to the people, which was in conformity with government's 'Better Ghana Agenda.'

He assured them of the Assembly's support to the church in establishing the school, because the school would encourage the congregation to get their wards enrolled to reduce illiteracy in the municipality.

Alex Kyeremeh hinted that the Assembly was planning to establish an institution of higher learning in the Municipality, which could be a nursing or a teacher training college, to help train more professionals to assist in the development of the area.
