Namibia: Welwitschias Ready for Portugal

6 November 2009

Windhoek — The Welwitschias arrived in Portugal this week and are ready to conquer the Iberian Peninsula on Saturday, 7 November when they face off against the Portuguese.

According to the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), the team has been going through rigorous training in Lisbon all week.

Whilst announcing the final team for the test, coach John Williams spoke about the assistance his squad is receiving from Portuguese Rugby authorities and its importance to his team.

"The fact that all the facilities, meals and training conditions are in such a great state, it allows us to focus on what matters the most, winning our matches," Williams said.

The NRU said they are informed that Portugal are very well prepared for our clash.

"That (Portugal being well prepared) is encouraging news for us, it means we will get to prepare for Tunisia against a formidable challenger," said Sakkie Mouton, Chief Executive of the NRU.

The Welwitschias will depart for Tunis from Lisbon Thursday, 12 November. The rugby union is encouraging supporters to write encouragement and support messages to the team.
