The Kombo North community, last Sunday, embarked on a cleansing exercise at the Banjul International Airport premises.

Speaking to the Daily Observer shortly after the exercise, Jato Sillah, minister of Forestry and the Environment, said the Banjul International Airport is a gateway to the country, adding that the importance of keeping the airport area clean cannot be over emphasised. Minister Sillah commended the people of Kombo North for their unflinching support to the government. He urged them to keep up the momentum.

Adama Sey, the coordinator of Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), disclosed that every year the Paramount Chief mobilises all the community of Kombo North to help them clean the Banjul International Airport premises, adding that the staff of GCAA appreciated the gesture.

Adama Cham, National Assembly Member for Kombo North, described the relationship between Kombo North and the International Airport as a long-standing one. He said their responsibility is to clean the airport premises and that they will also form a committee that will work hand in hand with GCAA to ensure that the airport premises remains clean at all times.
