Gambia: Assailant's Fate in Limbo

One Abdoulie Jawara, was recently brought before the Brikama Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate J A Effim, charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

According to the prosecution, the accused on the 27th of October 2009, at Tabokoto, assaulted one Abdouraman Jobe by hitting him with an unidentified instrument, thereby causing him serious injury. He pleaded guilty to this offence.

When the case was mentioned, the police prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Jammeh, applied for a short adjournment on the grounds that the gravity of the injury is not yet known. The presiding magistrate at that juncture adjourned the case.
