Janjangbureh — The Kambengo Foundation in Netherlands, recently restored the water reticulation system for the community of Kaur, in the Lower Saloum District, Central River Region (CRR) north.
The foundation provided them with 4 kilo-watts pump and a controller worth two hundred and fifty thousand dalasis (D250,000). The water system of Kaur was faulty for the past two years, making life difficult for the community of Kaur.
In his Keynote address, the Regional Governor Alhaji Ganyie Touray, hailed the Kambengo Foundation for their humanitarian assistance that they are providing for the communities in CRR. Governor Touray recalled that this is the third time that the Kambengo Foundation is restoring water system for communities in his region. He urged the communities to focus on sustaining and manageing the water supply facility.
The coordinator of Kambengo foundation who doubles as the chief executive officer of the Jammeh Foundation for Peace (JFP) hospital, Kebba Manneh, expressed appreciation for supporting the needy Gambian communities. He said the foundation has provided the community of Kaur with a pump and an invater, nothing that it is the biggest system in the region. He explained that it is a dual function system where by it can use both the solar and electricity.
He challenged them to put in place a strong mechanism and to mobilise resources for regular maintenance. CEO Manneh urged the beneficiaries to establish savings account for the system.
The Alkalo of Kaur Mustapha Njie, commended the foundation for their timely intervention, adding that water problem is now a thing of the past. He assured the donors that they will put in place a strong water management committee for its proper up keep. He further thanked them for planting nearly three hundred and eighty trees for the community of Kaur.
