Gambia: 32 Arrestees Returned From Banjulto Bansang

The 32 elderly people who were arrested by CID personnel from Bansang, Njoben, Kolley Kunda and Foni, and brought to the Banjul Police Station for questioning, were on the 2nd of November 2009 taken back by the same CID personnel to Bansang Police Station for further investigation as confirmed by the police PRO ASP Superintendent Sulayman Secka.

It was firmly confirmed by this paper that the arrest of these 32 people, was linked to a village hand pump that became dysfunctional and was later allegedly sold as scrap metal to another neighbouring village.

According to the Public Relation Officer ASP Sulayman Secka, he could confirm that the arrestees are taken back to Bansang by the very people who brought them. He said on many occasions, when investigations are not completed, they do not like to talk to the press because it could lead to some setbacks.

Mr. Secka also promised this reporter that if investigations are complete he will contact this reporter for further information.
