Mozambique: Nampula Election Result - Correction

Maputo — In transmitting the provincial results from last week's general elections, AIM inadvertently substituted the figure for Renamo votes in the northern province of Nampula with the figure from the neighbouring province of Zambezia.

The correct result for Nampula, as given by the provincial elections commission, was as follows:

Presidential election

Daviz Simango (MDM): 31,494 (5 per cent) Armando Guebuza (Frelimo): 386,375 (68 per cent) Afonso Dhlakama (Renamo): 156,438 (27 per cent)

Parliamentary election

Frelimo: 382,812 (65.6 per cent) Renamo: 162,718 (23.4 per cent).

When the d'Hondt system of proportional representation is applied to these figures, it shows that, of the 45 parliamentary seats allocated to Nampula, Frelimo will take 32 and Renamo 13.
