Nairobi — The annual national agricultural trade fair in central Kenya will be held late this month. This year's event, slated for November 20 and 21 in Ol'Kalou town, seeks to explore possible interventions by government and other stakeholders to improve food security.
Under the theme 'Promoting Food Sufficiency and Vision 2030', organisers say the trade fair will focus on how to empower farmers with better farming methods, as a way of achieving food sufficiency. The performance of the agriculture sector over the years suffered substantial decline due a number of factors.
Farming practices
"Poor farming methods are to blame, as well as lack of adequate information on improved farming practices," said Mr George Wambugu, the managing director Delight Promotions Ltd, which is organising the event together with the ministry of Agriculture and Ol-Kalou Rural Industrial Innovation Centre and Sports (ORIICS).
"The trade fair will help create linkages for farmers and strengthen networks within and without the region." The show to be held at the Oriics centre in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua North, is expected to draw farmers from across the country. "We need to address pro-market high value collaborations that help farmers adopt modern techniques to increase food productivity," he said.
This is the third of the Ol Kalou agricultural trade fairs which double as trading events, where discounted sales on agricultural products are offered.
