Nairobi — An elderly woman was buried alive in a landslide at Gikingo village in Imenti South District following heavy rains. Mrs Karuberina Karuki, 70, was cutting grass for her goats when the tragedy occurred.
Went missing
This brings to eight the number of deaths caused by the rains in Meru, with the worst hit being Meru North, where six people have died. On Tuesday, a 13-year old schoolgirl was buried alive in Kahuro division in Murang'a East while a road was blocked in Kangema in Murang'a West.
Meanwhile, tension is high in Peresten village of Cheptais division in Mt Elgon District after the dismembered body of a 14-year-old girl who went missing on October 3 was found on Friday.
A local boy found the body when dogs led him to a trench covered with maize stalks. "I saw a dog with a human hand and on following it, found the body parts," he said. Investigations reveal that the girl may have been raped.
Residents feared this may herald the return of the Sabaot Land Defence Force. In Malindi, a night club watchman was brutally murdered on Friday. The body of Mr Stephen Martin Marusoi was found in a pool of blood a few metres from the bar. The attackers stole a radio worth Sh18,000.
In Kisumu town, residents of Manyatta A Estate on Friday lynched a man they said was a member of a gang that has been terrorising them.
Was cornered
Area deputy police boss Nicholas Musilu said the man was cornered as he demanded bribes pretending to be a police officer. In Naivasha, a 30-year-old man was killed and his body dumped on a footpath in the sprawling Kihoto estate. In another incident, a six-man gang hijacked a Nairobi-bound bus early on Tuesday morning and robbed the passengers of money and phones.
