Nairobi — The Saturday Nation interviewed the chairman of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Advisory Board, Mr Okong'o O'mogeni, on the challenges facing the board. Below are the excerpts:
By when would you have concluded the recruitment exercise?
The Board is executing its mandate to the fullest. My only assurance, quite guardedly, is that by end of November something would have happened.
How can you assure the public that the selection process will be transparent?
The process is as transparent as are the board members who are above-board. Our ultimate aim is to present to the country a credible and trustworthy team of professionals who will be judged on their merit.
Briefly, what are the profiles of the applicants for the positions?
We are according each applicant due attention and regard and I have no doubt the next team of directors will be competitive.
The position attracts interest from across the society, how is that influencing the selection process?
We will not rely on any 'influence' other than the guidance by the law, procedure and, of course, God. Any applicant who possesses the relevant qualifications, an impeccable background, with tested and proven credentials, beyond reproach standing, remains assured of clinching the job and therefore facing the challenges of the task at hand.
How has your position as the board's affected your social life?
Interesting question. I remain, and will always be, loyal and committed to my family. However, no assignment, private or public, has ever affected my life, social or otherwise.
