Uganda: No Easy Task as Lukiiko Sets to Meet

The Buganda Lukiiko meets this Monday to take a final stand on the now stalled talks between Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and President Museveni, Saturday Monitor has leant.

Details emerging from highly-placed sources within Mengo who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter indicate that the Kabaka summoned the Lukiiko following indicators that talks with the President were yielding nothing tangible.

Police probe tycoon over death threats

City tycoons Karim Hirji and Mr Joseph Ssempebwa have dragged the proprietor of Bwebajja Hotel to Police on allegations that he is threatening to kill them, Saturday Monitor has learnt.

Mr Hirji and Mr Ssempebwa reported Joseph Behakanira at CID headquarters a fortnight ago. CID has opened at case of threatening violence.

As the Chogm inquiry progresses, emerging details tell of a shocking scam surrounding a controversial car deal, where the government lost more than Shs3 billion due to the procurement of 'faulty' BMWs.

Saturday Monitor has reliably learnt that the country would have saved Shs3 billion, if the government had procured Chogm vehicles with agreed specifications.

It has emerged that some BMWs, supplied by M/S Europecar/ Motorcare, reportedly had run-out tyres and lacked spare ones.
