Gambia:MDFT Hails CDDP

Lawa Drammeh, a member of Salikene ward Multi-Disciplinary Facilitation Team (MDFT), has commended the Community Driven Development Project, (CDDP) for their untiring efforts in enhancing their capacity in all areas of development agenda.

She was speaking during an interview with Daily observer's reporter in NBR. She said the capacity development of MDFT would contribute immensely towards bridging the capacity gap of village development committees to coordinate all development activities, achieve sustainable development and improve the livelihood of rural households. "The process would promote effective participation in ensuring transparent and smooth participation of all stakeholders at the grassroots level and promote ownership and sustainability," she remarked.

Lawa Drammeh, further thanked the Community Driven Development Project for building their capacity on project design, financial management, project costing, strategic development plan of village development committees and of recent community-based participatory monitoring just to name a few. She said the trainings would go a long way in promoting the transfer of skills and knowledge at grassroots level.

She described CDDP intervention as transforming the lives of rural households in contributing to poverty reduction. "The project continues to empower the communities to take charge of their own development aspirations and promote good governance and democratic principles in design of projects," she stated.

Drammeh also thanked World Bank-funded Community Driven Development Project for providing grant to beneficiaries to contribute to poverty reduction and reducing drudgery on women, citing provision of coose milling machines and tractors aimed at promoting health and boosting food production as examples. According to her the project would create employment opportunities for rural youths and reduce rural-urban migration. Drammeh finally challenged beneficiary communities to ensure sustainability of development projects, as they will bring about positive changes on the lives of rural households.
