Nigeria: Emmanuel, Simply the Best

As quarter-final action resumes today in the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009, Golden Eaglets forward, Shehu Sani Emmanuel, with three goals in just two games, is considered among the top contenders for the Adidas Golden Shoe. Currently placed second behind top scorer, Uruguay's Sebastian Gallegos, Emmanuel saw action for only 73 minutes, while the likes of Gallegos and Sergi Roberto (3 goals) have played for 249 minutes and 298 minutes, respectively.

Interestingly, since coming in as a second half substitute during Nigeria's last group game against Argentina in Bauchi, the My People FC product and altar boy in The Synagogue, Church of All Nations, has always displayed top marksmanship in front of opponent's goal.

Speaking shortly after his brace sent New Zealand packing, Emmanuel insisted that he is not bothered about the few minutes he has spent on the pitch. "All that matters to me is for the team to keep winning games. And if that will see us go all the way to retain the trophy on November 15, I am not bothered," he added.

Interestingly, Emmanuel will have another Nigerian, Edafe Egbedi (3 goals) who has played for 289 minutes to contend with for the top scorer award that was won by Nigeria's Macaulay Christansus at Korea 2007.
