Nigeria:First Bank Donates N1 Million to KHF

Lagos — Respite came on the way of 11 Nigerians with hole-in- the heart last week as First Bank of Nigeria Plc doled out a cheque of Nl million in support of Kanu Heart Foundation's (KHF) efforts to raise funds for the purchase of air tickets for 11 patients and their escorts for the second batch of surgery initiatives at the Salem Cardiac Centre, Khartoum, Sudan.

Presenting the cheque to the Coordinator of Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF), Deacon Onyebuchi Abia, Head Marketing/Corporate Communication, First Bank, Celine Loader, said: "The bank appreciates the need to assist the Foundation in the good work of saving lives even at this period of economic crisis and the management will truly support any good initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians."

In his reaction, Abia thanked the management of the bank for responding positively to their request, adding that the Foundation was determined to maximize the 50 patients yearly free surgery initiative offered to the Foundation by Emergency Italy, a non governmental organisation, based in Sudan.

"The foundation needs more funds to offset the air tickets and some basic needs of the patients and their accompanied escorts.

"This is the second batch of patients for the year 2009. The first batch of 9 patients and accompanied 7 escorts left Nigeria on August 18, 2009 and returned on September 17, 2009. All the patients who came back are doing well.

Deacon Abia further called on individuals, corporate bodies to assist the foundation as the number of patients on the waiting list is increasing by the day.
