Uganda: Kiyaga Fights to Beat 2010 Deadline

Faced with the fact that he could be barred from competitions next year, rally driver Geoffrey Kiyaga is in race against time to remain in the sport he loves.

"The new (2010) rules spell out that any car exceeding 10 years cannot score yet mine (Subaru Impreza N4) is a 1997 model," Kiyaga, fondly known as Black Widow, told Daily Monitor.

Due to this, the 11th event of this year's Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) - dubbed 'Jump Start Black Widow' - set for tomorrow at the Festino double race circuit - will be used to fundraise for a new Ford Fiesta (model 2007) valued at Shs60m.

"I hope that Sunday will be the last time I drive the Subaru and when everything is complete, the car will come in from Australia," he said.
