Abuja — The craftsmen whom specialized in making mortars and pestles and display such along the Gwarinpa-Kubwa express way in Abuja have lamented the current downturn facing their craft business as a result of the on-going construction work on the road.
They said the work has made their business to slow down as the usual luxury they used to enjoy to display their works and attract customers has been hampered. One of the craftsmen,Yahaya Adamu said "It is challenging now, because after a display, the grader or caterpillar would come to that area to work, so you have to move to another side again. As you can see now, we are almost by the far edge of the road and some of us even in the middle."
Though, they acknowledged that the stress is less than what they faced during el-Rufai. "During the tenure of el -Rufai, tax force officials would just storm to our premises with police and start burning our mortars and pestle .Now, we have to be moving to different places but is still better so long as your properties are safe. Workers of the Chinese firm are cooperating."
