Kampala — TWO suspected thieves in Kayunga district were murdered by residents in two separate incidents on Tuesday.

The district investigations chief, John Dhabangi, said Elisa Waki was killed by residents of Buyungirizi after he was found in possession of stolen items. Dhabangi said the deceased, who was a stranger in the area, had camped in a forest.

"He was found in the bush with all the items that he allegedly stole after breaking into people's houses at night," Dhabangi said. Residents armed with machetes and clubs beat the suspect to death after they stormed the bush where he was allegedly hiding with the items.

In a similar incident, residents of Namulanda killed Ssaalongo Ssekitooleko, whom they allegedly found with stolen meat. His five colleagues are said to have escaped the mob.

Sources said Ssekitoleko and his colleagues slaughtered a cow they had stolen from Sebastian Nsadha and were going to sell the meat.

Dhabangi said no arrests had been made in connection to the two murders. He condemned residents for taking the law into their hands.
