Kampala — THIS December, travellers from Kamuli and Kayunga districts will connect to Mukono, Kampala and Jinja districts using the new Nabuganyi-Mbulamuti ferry.
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) corporate communications manager, Dan Kitakule Alinange, revealed this on Thursday after he inspected the new ferry facilities at Kayunga and Kamuli landing sites.
"The ferry will reduce the journey by half from Kamuli to Jinja and Kampala," he said.
Alinange said travellers were not supposed to pay any money for the UNRA ferry anywhere in the country.
"The 120-tonne capacity ferry will carry about 10 cars including 60 people seated. It will cruise daily because it is supposed to work as a bridge," said Eng. Nkya Kiiza, the UNRA manager of mechanical services.
The sh2b ferry powered by diesel engines was assembled in Uganda by the suppliers, Mabey and Johnson Limited.
"The water levels will be a determinant on the movement of the ferry because they are ever-changing. We are, therefore, constructing two landing sites for the dry and rainy season," said Kiiza.
